LEVEL ONE · CONTINUOUS MONITORING

You do not start with faces.

Dr. Lincoln did not either. He started with a clipboard and a blank sheet, writing down everything happening in a room, second by second, until his eye stopped skipping.

Level one is three stages. The first two have no people in them at all, or too many to manage. That is on purpose. Before you can see what a face is doing, you have to find out what your own attention does when it is turned all the way up.

STAGE ONE
A room with nobody in it

An empty office, full of objects. List what is there, then what it does to you.

60 SECONDS
STAGE TWO
Fifty people at once

Fifty people mid-motion. Same instruction, four times the traffic.

90 SECONDS
STAGE THREE
One face

One portrait, and the first real reading you will do.

90 SECONDS
The clock is the exercise. There is no pause.
